Please be advised that the Massachusetts Minimum wage will be increasing effective January 1, 2021. The minimum wage law applies to almost all employees in Massachusetts with some exceptions (i.e. those being trained in charitable, educational or religious institutions; members of religious orders; agricultural, floricultural, and horticultural workers; those in professional service; and outside salespersons not reporting to or visiting their office daily).

If you have a question as to whether any of your employees are exempt from the minimum wage requirement, we would be happy to review the classifications with you.  Effective January 1, 2021 Minimum Wage Will Increase as Follows:

  • Minimum Wage shall be $13.50 per hour.• Service Rate shall be $5.55 per hour (provided service employee receives tips of more than $20 per month and if his/her average hourly tips, when added to the service rate, is equal to or exceeds the basic minimum wage).• Premium pay for Sunday retail workers will decrease to 1.2% from 1.3%.

If you generate your payroll internally, please be sure that the appropriate changes are made to ensure all employees are paid this new minimum wage effective January 1st.
